On March 8th 2008, I arrived at the gates of a beautiful period hotel in the lovely County of Darlington. As I walked into the reception area I saw three gentlemen, resplendent in the most amazing embossed ivory waistcoats, crisp white shirts and immaculate dress trousers. The shine on their shoes was completely eclipsed be their huge smiles.
Trevor Prescott, who I had the pleasure of meeting in 2004 for the first time, when he came, with his lady Tere, to my home to share in a foundation, and advanced course, and here we were together on this chosen day for this wonderful couple to marry. Wedding number one was about to take place.
As I joined the other guest in the loveliest of function rooms, Trevor stood smiling, waiting for his bride. The doors opened and in blow Tere wearing a stunning lace gown and the largest of smiles.
A Native American blessing typified the atmosphere and warmth that filled the room, which made this event such a priveledge to share, and as I enjoyed time with Tere’s wonderful family from Mexico I knew that laughter and joy will always overcome any language barrier. As the roast beef lunch was put before all, but me, I wondered how Tere’s family would enjoy this most traditional of all British meals. I need not have worried as the largest bottle of tobasco sauce, I have ever seen, was passed around the family. I with good grace declined.
Trevor’s parents were about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, which mean more party time for a very close family, and loving family. A prospect they were extremely happy about.
The wedding cake was created as three tier of suitcases, very apt for a couple who spend their lives flitting from one airport to another, but best of all were the icing models of their own dogs who were safe at home in New Zealand.
With wedding number one such a gorgeous affair, there remains the second in Mexico in August, and number three in their adopted Country Aoteroa (New Zealand to us).
I know that everyone wishes this special couple a fantastic life.
Warmest wishes
Jan
